Our History
It all began with a quest for the very best.
Our story began in the summer of 1973, when our founders, Pegge Kirschner and Grant Dowse, traveled to Europe and first experienced the exceptional quality of flannel sheets made from pure cotton.
When they realized they couldn’t find this same quality in the U.S., the seed was sown for what would later become America’s first natural fibers catalog company.
From the past comes our future
Pegge and Grant were ahead of their time. The values they imbued in the company almost 50 years ago are in demand now more than ever. The integrity, care, and purity of thought of our founders continue to guide everything we do at Garnet Hill. Our passion has always been and will always be creating well-crafted, enduring pieces sourced from natural fibers.
- 1976
Garnet Hill is launched in Franconia, New Hampshire, as a purveyor of English flannel.
- 1994
Organic cotton clothing is introduced.
- 1997
The company is purchased by Cornerstone Brands.
- 2000
garnethill.com goes live.
- 2001
Our Firsts and Seconds Store opens down the road from Corporate Headquarters in Franconia.
- 2007
The Home Shopping Network, Inc. (HSN) purchases Cornerstone Brands.
- 2009
Our Facebook page is launched, followed later by Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
- 2010
More than 80% of orders are placed online. Our mobile website launches.
- 2013
We launch the Threads blog.
- 2015
A second facility, comprising offices and a photo studio, is added in Exeter, New Hampshire.
- 2017
The growing Firsts and Seconds Store moves to our Corporate Headquarters in Franconia, reopening as The Garnet Hill Outlet Store.
Garnet Hill, our sister brands, and HSN are acquired by QVC; the worldwide corporation is rebranded as Qurate Retail Group.
