Our cashmere has a conscience.

We’re passionate about our cashmere and not just because it’s soft and luxurious. Fiber to form, there is care and kindness in every design. From the environmentally responsible practices of the manufacturing facility to the strong relationships with herders to ensure humane treatment of the goats, there’s a lot to learn and love about our cashmere.

It all starts with the right ethical, like-minded partnership.

The teams we partner with are 100% transparent. These skilled people purchase their fibers directly from the herders, and they own all the facilities utilized to make our cashmere, including fiber processing, yarn spinning, and garment manufacturing. Our partners have 100% control over the quality and carefully keep records, so from farm to sweater, there is complete visibility into all processes.

The team ensures humane treatment for the goats.

The combing process is standardized and monitored to provide gentle and humane care for the goats. Our partners collect the combed fibers and take them to their own dehairing facility. Once the cashmere is dehaired, the fibers go to the dye house, then to fiber-processing facilities for carding and spinning. The final yarn is then transported to the garment facility.

Our partners nurture strong relationships with their herders.

The fiber team selects only herders who comply with the animal-welfare standard. It has over 20 years of direct relationships with these herders (there are no third parties!). Fair Trade practices are essential to building these relationships, and our partners always keep the herders’ welfare and wellbeing at the center of everything they do.

They also focus on sustainability at every step of the process.

The fiber dyeing process only uses Huntsman dyes. Huntsman partners with the team to support sustainable programs like ZDHC (Zero Discharge Hazardous Chemicals) which guarantee the process is clean. The team also measures, monitors, and records its energy and water consumption, setting annual targets to reduce impact on the environment.

Better building operations: the team is conscientious throughout the entire process.

Our partners use solar panels to generate 300 kilowatts of energy. It’s enough to power the entire knitting department. The residual steam from a nearby power plant is used for all ironing and drying processes, and this results in zero emissions of greenhouse gases.

Also, our partners support women and their communities.

We’re proud that 80% of our partners’ workforce is women who are involved with the HERproject™. The HERproject™ is run by BSR™, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women through health education, financial inclusion, and gender equality. This project has resulted in providing women with information that will help them and their communities.
