A day in linen, with blogger Tyler Harless

We love the way Tyler Harless from GirlMeetsGold has an eye for casual, comfortable styling and neutral hues, so we asked her to help us tell you why life’s just better in linen. Tyler lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her fiancé and two dogs, Benny and Marlo. Outside the blogging world, she works in marketing and has a passion for animals, the environment, and learning how to live more sustainably. With each new season comes new beginnings, but there’s something about the shift into spring that tops them all. That first few days of lasting sunshine when it’s getting warmer, the flowers are budding, and we can open the windows and let the fresh air in — it’s a time to trade heavy outerwear and sweaters for lighter styles. We long for relaxed silhouettes that dance in the breeze and breathable fabrics that keep us cool.

We live in linen

Made from responsibly sourced European flax, Garnet Hill linen is soft, breathable, and naturally temperature regulating to keep you comfortable from morning to night. Here’s how I live in linen in the springtime and beyond:

Wake up in linen.

To start the day on a fresh foot, try waking up in the luxurious comfort of relaxed-linen sheets. Naturally temperature-regulating and ideal for all seasons, linen bedding truly gets softer with every wash. For an elegant yet casual boutique-like look and a bit of dimension, I paired my all-white linen sheets with a Stripe Relaxed-Linen Duvet Cover in Oatmeal Bengal Stripe. Whether you choose a matching set or mix and match, you really can’t go wrong.

Take on the day in linen.

No matter where your day takes you, from errands to work or play, linen is the fabric to throw on and go. With superior breathability plus a comfy relaxed feel, it’s versatile and layers with ease. Try a pair of linen shorts or breezy linen pants topped with a matching linen blazer for an everyday ensemble that looks effortless yet sophisticated in a pinch.

Dine alfresco with linen.

Spring calls for dining outdoors on the porch, patio, or lawn, and linen tablecloths and napkins are ideal for setting a beautiful, seasonal space. There’s something about draping your table in linen — it’s easy, elegant and feels instantly inviting. I topped an outdoor table with a washed-linen tablecloth in subtle stripes layered it with a table runner and coordinating linen napkins. Add fresh flowers and simple place settings that are fit for both indoor and outdoor entertaining or a weeknight dinner for two.

Slip into something linen.

A slip dress is a wardrobe staple, and one in linen is equal parts classic, comfortable, and cool. I love the linen spin on a classic LBD for a look that’s sophisticated yet seasonal and approachable. It’s also an easy day-to-night style you can dress up with wedges for a backyard event or dress down with flipflops — or even go barefoot on the grass at home. This Easy Linen Slip Dress is truly one to live in.

End the day in linen.

Linen just gets better with every wash (and every sleep). A bed draped in linen is one you’ll look forward to climbing into each and every evening. Whether you sleep hot or cold, linen offers superior breathability and naturally regulates your temperature to keep you comfortable. For winding down, try turning down your linen sheets and topping with a linen quilt for extra comfort. A spritz of lavender and a calming candle only add to the luxurious yet comforting nighttime routine.
