The season to be merry! The decorations you choose show the essence and personality of the family that lives inside the home. Bright and colorful, warm and neutral, or traditional red and green are all good palettes to create a festive and inviting holiday home.
To provide you a little decorating inspiration, we partnered with Valeria Jacobs from @rebeccaandgenevieve to share four easy tips to help you prepare and decorate your shelves and mantel for the season.
1 | CHOOSE YOUR COLOR STORY.
Whether it’s vibrant, neutral, or traditional red and green, you must first select a color scheme that works for your space and home.
We like a bold eclectic mix of colors to update traditional red-and-green Christmas accents. We love the way Valeria used decorative trees in pinks, blues, and greens with our Preserved Boxwood Garland. It’s a festival of color — just add knit Woolen Stockings and a Chubby Santa.
For a quieter look, she dressed the kitchen with Preserved Boxwood Topiaries and more garland. The wooden Chatterblocks® Advent Calendar mixes well with the wooden cutting board and the creamy finish of our Sintra Stoneware Bowls.
2 | USE TWINKLE LIGHTS.
Twinkle lights add ambiance and a touch of holiday magic to any space. Here, Valeria added a couple of strands of twinkle lights to our Preserved Boxwood Garland for a warm, festive glow.
STYLE TIP: If you can’t light a fire in your fireplace, try adding lights over an artfully arranged stack of logs.
3 | VARY HEIGHTS AND TEXTURES.
When decorating shelves, mix and group things with varying heights and textures to add interest to the space. Use books, candles, stacked bowls, Farmhouse Pottery Trees, and potted plants or greenery in a vase to guide the eye on a journey. By mixing in different materials — like ceramic, clay, wood, stone, foliage, and glass — you add depth and dimension to your display.
4 | ADD FAMILY HEIRLOOMS AND SPECIAL PIECES
Make them personal, your shelves and fireplace mantel should reflect your family’s memories, history, and experiences. Add special touches that tell a story; Personalized Stockings, vintage finds, and heirlooms will create a one-of-a-kind that’s all your own.
