A series about creating, learning, and thriving today

Summer is the time to throw open your windows, let the warm sun and cool breezes in, and lighten your bedding layers.

To inspire you, we asked our Garnet Hill teammates to show us how they’ve styled their beds for the season. Here are three of looks that our team put together. Enjoy!

Linnea from our Home team creates a nostalgic coastal retreat in her guest bedroom for a Happy-at-Home “staycation.”

  • Get your favorite whimsical print in a duvet cover and mix it with classic sheeting. I chose Relaxed Linen Bedding in White to keep it classic and clean. For me, there’s nothing like sliding into cool white sheets on warm summer nights.
  • I like to start with the right foundation pieces, to add loft and make the bedding look even more plush and inviting. Here, I used a Signature Down-Alternative Comforter and Pillows as my blank canvas to craft this bed.
  • Add some spa and bed & breakfast type amenities for that extra touch of luxury in the room. I chose fresh towels, soaps, and a natural loofah.
  • Finish the room with decorative touches inspired by the beach: reeds and seagrass, natural-fiber storage, a comfy Moroccan Leather Pouf, and a good book (one that’s worthy of throwing in a beach bag, because you can’t put it down).

Kate from our Creative team reinterprets the traditional summer bed with eclectic layering pieces and classic blue and white stripes.

  • Start with white linen sheets as your base and add color and texture with a quilt, pillows, and contrasting patterns. Blue and white stripes are a classic summer staple.
  • I like to use layers even in the summer; that way you can take away or add depending upon the temperature (think, AC!). I use a comforter year-round, because I like the loftiness it gives the bed, plus it’s nice to swap out the duvet cover to change up the look.
  • Don’t be afraid to mix patterns. In this case, the stripe acts as a neutral and the Marin fan print adds some color and depth for a touch of whimsy.
  • In my opinion, you can never have too many pillows on your bed! Try layering standard and larger Euro-size pillows. Dress them in various pillowcases and shams, and top with some decorative pillows. Play around with the arrangement: try your Euro pillows in back, vary the heights, or maybe stack them. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, so have fun!

Inspired by warm summer days and memories of trips to the ocean, Wendy from our Brand Marketing team brings the beach to her home.

  • Start with bold, colorful conversation pieces. For summer, I love the whimsy and artistic flair of Hable bedding. These exclusive designs are created exclusively for us by sisters Susan and Katharine Hable. Here, I chose Hable Cabana Percale Bedding. It adds a little surf-inspired fun to the room and has me dreaming about the ocean.
  • I continued the theme by layering the Hable Beach Ball Quilt on the bed. It’s vibrant pieced design adds sunshine and playfulness to the room.
  • Don’t be afraid to use something designed for outdoor decorating, indoors. Here, I use a Hable Indoor-Outdoor Pillow; its seashell motif lends an ideal finishing touch to the bed.
  • I like to anchor the room with a fun seaside-inspired rug. The floor is another opportunity to add color and design to the space.
  • Complete the look with a few accents reminiscent of past beach vacations: seashells and sea glass in a vase and a touch of greenery with succulents — they bring the theme home.
  • Also, when styling a room, keep your four-legged loved ones in mind! I like to create a pet-friendly bed that’s cozy enough for our dog to take a nap.

Express yourself! Make the space your own with personal touches, like a favorite throw, an artisan rug, bold wall art, and a seasonal wreath or other decorative accents. Surround yourself with the things that you love, things that bring you comfort and make you smile. Celebrate each and every moment to find the beauty and happiness of being at home.

How are you staying creative and happy at home? We’d love to read your ideas and see your photos on social media. Share them with us using #GarnetHillFamily and #HappyAtHome on Instagram.
