New resolutions for a new year

2018 New Year Resolutions

The Garnet Hill philosophy of “Beautiful, Naturally™” isn’t just how we see our curated collection of natural-fiber clothes, accessories, and goods for bed and bath; it’s also how we see you. But we understand the urge to change (specifically, to look and feel better) is a strong one this time of year.

Four of the most common—and most commonly broken—New Year’s Resolutions are to exercise more, lose weight, eat healthy, and reduce stress. So as you kick off 2018, Garnet Hill encourages you to reconsider your resolutions to make them more positive and, hopefully, easier to incorporate into your life.

Past Resolution: Exercise More / New Resolution: Don’t Exercise At All

Hear us out: If you’re not already a fan of exercise, chances are you never will be. Instead of setting yourself up to fail (say, buying a gym membership and never going to the gym), rethink exercise. You still have to get your heart rate up at least 30 minutes most days, so focus on fun things you love that leave you breathless (say, dancing to 90s pop music like no one’s watching) and work it into your schedule throughout the week.

Past Resolution: Lose Weight / New Resolution: Lose Insecurity

Unless you’re under doctor’s orders to shed a few pounds, give yourself a break. You may be just right, just the way you are right now. (Please read that last sentence again and again until it sinks in.) If you can’t help but think you’d like to see something different when you look in the mirror, we suggest changing into a figure-flattering outfit—the right clothes really do make all the difference in the world!

Past Resolution: Eat Healthy / New Resolution: Eat Healthy Favorites

It’s January, and refrigerators across the country are now stocked with a rainbow of fruits and veggies—many doomed for the compost pile. If this scenario sounds familiar, we have an alternative: instead of stocking up on healthy items you simply can’t stomach, fill your fridge and cupboards with your favorite items that just happen to be healthy, and load your plate with these as part of most meals.

Past Resolution: Reduce Stress / New Resolution: Increase Pleasure

Trying to reduce stress can be a stressful under-taking. While it’s certainly a good idea to manage the stressors in your life, it’s also just as important (and much more fun!) to increase exposure to those things that give you pleasure, like reading a book by a favorite author, taking a bubble bath, or (ahem!) shopping Garnet Hill’s Sale of the Day page. Sometimes, the things that give you pleasure are also diversions from stress.

You’re already beautiful, naturally. We hope these new New Year’s resolutions make you healthier and happier, too.
