Smartwool® Merino Quarter-Zip Top is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent top! I ordered one of these a few years ago but returned it because it seemed too tight. It was my usual size but the material is thin (but warm!) and I didn't like the way it looked. This time when I saw a similar SmartWool top on sale I decided to try it again but this time in a medium. It's perfect! Amazingly thin yet also very warm. Where have you been all my life? The larger size also gives me more sleeve length -- I have long arms -- which I very much appreciate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and comfortable Have several old Smartwool Sweaters. Love the warmth and comfort and that they are easily washed. This one is a new color for me and I look forward to wearing it this winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great color! I bought this red smart wool quarter-zip top as a gift for myself. It's such a lovely red, soft, warm and fits just perfectly. It is a favorite and perfect for cold outdoor activities either as a base layer or as a lighter top layer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for skiing! I bought this for my daughter to wear as a base layer when she skis. She loves it! Great fit, lightweight, and warm. I am going fill in the details with her age, height and size, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm stylish winter layer Stylish and functional winter layer. My red merino top is a flattering color with my skin and hair. I wore it with pearls to dress it up, I also used it as my base layer. The sleeves are too long, Until I see the seamstress they will reman rolled up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smartwool base layer sweater Beautiful sweater that you can wear as an underlayer or as just a top sweater. Lightweight, yet warm on the ski slope or a long walk with your dog in the morning great to wear with leggings or jeans. Because it's a quarter zip you can adjust the neckline area. Washes beautifully. I did not put it in the dryer but laid it out on top of the dryer to dry. I wish that more stores provided this type of sweater that is lightweight and warm for the winter or cool mornings in the fall. I think it's made as a base layer for going skiing as well. It's my dream sweater

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great on its own or layered! I bought this in the pomegranate and grey size medium, fit very nicely, fitted and I am 5'5" 135lbs 36b for reference. A really good investment to my wardrobe, will pair up great with my outdoor vest. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn’t be happier with a top! I bought this top to layer with, and to take on a trip to see some outdoor Christmas markets. It is the perfect weight, so soft, I love it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So versatile, I’ve purchased two of these this fall. Both are warm and soft. The grey will not be worn as a base layer, it just looks too good! The burgundy is not as dressy, it’s fine for casual wear and ski season. Both look great in my usual size and if used strictly as a base layer would be fine in a size down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bring on Winter I bought this a couple of months ago and it has become my go to top when the weather gets chilly. It is very comfortable and light, yet provides the warmth that I need as autumn starts inching towards winter. It will be easily layered if the weather gets really cold. I highly recommend this top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So soft Love it! You can't go wrong with Merino wool. The zip at the neck is a bonus!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great garment I love this top and wear it alone or with another layer for greater warmth. I really wanted a comfortable warm layer for Colorado winters and it fulfills that need in a flattering, comfortable way. Mine is solid dark gray and goes with everything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smartwool, smart fit! I can't get enough Smartwool layers and this top is great! It's not too heavy and not too light. I have the solid grey color and it can look dressy with the right pants. You can't beat the quality and fit. I'm normally a Small 6/8 and Small was perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! I have several Smartwool quarter zip sweaters. They are super soft, not itchy and easy to care for. They also look great for casual wear and are great for hiking too! I wish they offered more colors!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these layers! This is my third such zip top by Smart Wool. I got this one to wear everyday, and not just for skiing. And it was on sale. Treating myself!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these pullovers - may run small? I love this style of Smartwool pullover, and the pattern on this one is really pretty. The medium is a little smaller than I expected (actually exactly matches the small sized one I bought a few years ago). It’s perfect for wearing over a longsleeved shirt but under a fleece in winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm as toast top I have two of these and just love them so decided to treat my daughter-in-law to one at Christmas. She loves it too! Nothing like merino wool to keep you warm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best base layer Returning to my home state of Michigan after years in warmer climates, I put faith in the Norwegian mantra that there was no had weather, just inappropriate clothing. This positive attitude wasn't enough as I shivered through the past few winters, weighted down in bulky clothes. These Smartwool tops, and their slacks, are lightweight AND warm; like wearing a perfect summer day. I enjoy the cold months a lot more now, both indoors and out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft against the skin Love the feel of smartwool. This piece doesn’t disappoint. I gave this a slightly higher rating on value b/c I bought on sale. Smartwool is rarely on sale, though. Still a great versatile piece at full price, just a bit steeply priced .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too Beautiful This base layer is really too beautiful to hide under as a layer. You will want to wear it with jeans and show it off. Im 5'4" 128 lbs, 32 D and find the Medium is best for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Comfortable & Warm I love Smartwool: it doesn't scratch, is lightweight, super warm, well made and machine washable (I'm so tired of dry-cleaning or hand-washing sweaters). I go this 1/4 zip to wear as everyday clothing (not activewear), and it doesn't disappoint. My other Smartwool tops ran a little snug, so I sized-up from my normal M to a L. Not sure if that was the right call. It's fine with a layer underneath, but a little baggy on it's own. If you prefer it more form-fitting, get your regular size. Regardless, highly recommend this top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I have another SmartWool sweater and have loved it's look and feel. This sweater won't disappoint. It's gives a sleek look and light warmth. Great for hiking and errands around town on rainy/snowy days. I'm 5'4", 123 lbs., 35D and the Medium is a perfect fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty I bought this a few weeks ago and am still happy. Its soft for wool, washes easily and keeps me warm. I recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sweater This is a great sweater. Flattering and made of great quality smart wool. I ordered a size up based on the other views, but I don't think I really needed to. I'm still keeping it, but I would've been fine with my regular size. I do think it is a bit pricey even on sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from snappy addition to my wardrobe It is stylish and well-fitting - I am a slim 5'5" and smalll fits perfectly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Bought to wear for walking and golf in cooler weather. Super comfortable, easy to move in! Bought size L (5’7” 170#) true to size. I am genetically “blessed” with larger upper arms but this sweater fits just right, not tight. Washed well also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from still great quality Needed to replace a Smartwool top that I'd had for about a decade (finally worked a hole in an elbow). Some reviews mentioning how small this top ran had me concerned that over the years Smartwool quality had suffered but no it has not! This is a wool base layer designed to fit snugly so you can layer over it and the sizing is appropriate. The wool is soft and machine washes beautifully. Now I'm set for another decade of winter walks with the dog!

Are the garment measurements correct? Is this intended to be skin-tight? It doesn’t look so in the model photo.

Asked by: faff343
Yes, the measurements are correct - we checked our sample to be sure. It is designed with a classic fit. While not intended to be "skin tight", many customers love this as a layering piece.

According to the size chart I should order an XL. I am 121 lbs. 36 inch bust, usually a size small and sometimes medium. Please advise.

Asked by: LWJ43
We suggest ordering your usual size (perhaps order up if you will layer underneath) as this is running true to size.

I'm trying to figure out what weight of smart wool this is--like is it 150 or 250?   Is Smart Wool the same for your brand....as say,  REI?

Asked by: paula7
The merino is 250 g/m2. Garnet Hill carries authentic Smartwool items.
