How We Build a Better Backpack

Garnet Hill Kids 2014 Backpack Collection

For kids, color and pattern rule the day when choosing a backpack, but parents know that smart styling and durability are equally important. That’s why we’re just as serious about the useful features and ergonomic design of our Backpack Collection as we are about creating seriously fun prints.

Our Backpack and Backpack Jr. are made with sturdy 600-denier poly and feature a reinforced 1200-denier bottom that resists wear and tear; high-quality YKK zippers to prevent snags and breakage; and roomy 600-denier side pockets to hold essentials — like our 20 oz. water bottle. (All components are PVC-free.)

The Backpack is sized for children age 7 and up, and the Backpack Jr. for age 4 and up. Both are ergonomically correct and tailored to the differing needs of the age group.

The Backpack has a roomier main compartment for toting books, notebooks and extra clothing, plus a front compartment with a built-in supply organizer. It also features an MP3-player holder and earphone port.

Sized a bit smaller, the Backpack Jr. boasts a roomy interior compartment designed to be tall enough for the standard pocket folder required for many early graders. A built-in organizer in the front zippered pocket holds pencils, notebooks, and other essentials.

Each style has a smart loop at the top that attaches to our Lunch Pack (via a kid-friendly clip at the Lunch Pack’s handle). The pack’s insulated chamber contains a mesh pocket with a Velcro® closure (under the lid) for carrying an ice pack, utensils, or money, and is big enough to hold our 20 oz. water bottle.
