Meet Maury, one of last year’s winners of our annual Slipper Boot Design Contest. She was 11 years old when her colorful snail design was selected. We loved her unique take on the challenge, and the motif’s swirls were an invitation to use so many vibrant hues! This is what she said when we interviewed her:
What was the inspiration for your design?
I liked the idea of the swirly snail shell and using a lot of colors in my design. I think a snail is a unique creature and it was fun to draw.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, Chocolate (our dog) and Oliver (our cat).
What do you want to be when you grow up?
An architect, professional ballerina, author, or dentist.
What is your favorite subject in school?
What was your favorite part about winning the slipper design contest?
It was very exciting to find out from my teacher at my school, Lawhon Elementary (my mom emailed her so she could tell me), and I enjoyed picking out clothes and jewelry from the Garnet Hill catalog!
