The Art of Making the Bed:
Comforter vs. Blanket

Garnet Hill Essential Blankets and Comforters

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a comforter and a blanket?

With our Essential Bedding Collection, you not only get the choice of down or down-free, but you also get the ability to mix and match a full spectrum of colors in both Comforter and Blanket sizes. These popular layering pieces make it easy to customize the bed based on your needs — and their subtle differences in size will make your bed look great. Here’s how we recommend that you use them.

The comforter is sized to sit neatly on top of the mattress, so it’s easy to layer without adding bulk to the sides of your bed. It’s the perfect layer nestled under an artfully pieced quilt or topped with an elegant coverlet, adding warmth and lightweight loft without making the sides look too poufy.

The blanket is designed to cascade and drape over the sides of the bed. It looks great on its own, or topping another layer. We like to layer it over a bold sheet print or another blanket of contrasting texture (like Cotton Fleece or Washable Wool).

Plus, blankets also come in a throw size. A versatile throw looks great folded at the foot of the bed, tossed over the back of a chair, or draped on the arm of a sofa or loveseat. Throws also make great one-size-fits-all gifts!
